Finnish consumer goods firm Fiskars has announced the beginning of restructuring talks with staff representatives which could see about 37 workers in Finland being made redundant.
The negotiations will focus on the company's Iittala factory in Hämeenlinna, where 19 job cuts are expected, as well as a distribution centre in Billnäs, where a further 18 jobs are under threat.
In a press statement, the company said it plans to close the distribution centre in Billnäs and concentrate its Finnish operations in Hämeenlinna.
In addition to the redundancies in Finland, Fiskars Group will also enter restructuring talks at its Rogaska glass factory in Slovenia, with 155 jobs on the line. The company said the move was "to modernize the factory and improve its competitiveness".
"Iittala and Rogaska factories continue to be an important part of our manufacturing footprint, as demonstrated by the investments we make in them. With these planned changes, we are ensuring their competitiveness both in the short and long term” Fiskars Group’s President and CEO Nathalie Ahlström wrote in a press release.
