Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso (Finns) survived a vote of confidence in Parliament on Friday afternoon.

The motion was rejected by 85 votes to 69, with no abstentions and 45 MPs absent.

The vote was called after the opposition Left Alliance party submitted a motion of no confidence in the minister earlier this week. The motion was also supported by the Centre Party and the SDP.

Juuso had faced widespread criticism after admitting she was surprised by the government's decision to cut some 100 million euros from the budget allocation for social services.

Social Democrats MP Jani Kokko said Juuso seemed to be "completely out of touch with the situation and plans at her own ministry".

The government also won a confidence vote on Friday, by 86-69, called after an interpellation question submitted by all of the opposition parties criticised the planned budget cuts to healthcare and social services.

In its budget for the 2025-2028 fiscal years, the government plans to reduce the number of 24-hour and specialist care units nationwide as well as cut the number of staff providing round-the-clock care for elderly people, among other reforms.
