The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has said it will not demand Windows95man, the act chosen to represent Finland at this year's Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), to change his underwear.

The nude imitation underwear worn by Windows95man, Teemu Keisteri, had come into focus for creating an illusion of nudity.

The nude-impression underwear had raised concerns from a television broadcast standpoint, as some countries may have stricter rules about the type of content shown on TV before 9pm. European time zones mean the song contest will air at 8pm in some places.

The Finnish act's outfit has also raised debate regarding the outfits typically worn by the show's male and female contestants. Scantily clad female artists have not been uncommon at Eurovision, but their revealing outfits have not been problematic.

The nude underwear was, however, not Windows95man's first fashion run-in with the show's organisers. In March, news emerged that Finland's Eurovision representative would have to modify his shirt bearing the Windows95 operating system logo as contest rules don't allow the display of product brands.

Keisteri, 38, originally came up with the campy Windows95man persona for Helsinki’s Flow Festival in 2013 after attending the LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts in Lahti.

The grand final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden, on 11 May with semi-finals before that on 7 and 9 May.
